Direction

Nobody hires a coach over a bench press.

Coaches are hired because something fundamental stopped working, and training was the only lever they knew how to pull. Every coach knows this. Almost none of them will put it on the website. But we know there is more. Transformation is a process with many levers.

What gets talked about

The things people carry into the gym.

  • What you believe, if belief is live for you, and what to do when it isn’t
  • Where you actually stand with your family, as opposed to where you say you do
  • Whether the degree is worth finishing
  • Whether this is the relationship, or the one you settled for
  • What kind of husband, father or partner you intend to be, in specifics
  • What you are for, once the obvious answers stop working

None of that is always predictable. It surfaces in the weekly check in, because that is where it always surfaces. Somebody explains why they missed three sessions and the real answer has nothing to do with the sessions. It’s life, and here we take that as seriously as your diet and sleep.

Why it belongs here

Because the body is downstream of it.

People do not fail programs because the programming was wrong. They fail because they are trying to rebuild a body while the life around it is still the one that broke it. The drinking has a reason. The missed sessions have a reason. The three in the morning scrolling has a reason.

Fix the reason and the training holds. Ignore it and you are writing a very detailed program for someone who is going to quit in March.

So this is not an upsell and it is not a separate product. It is part of coaching, included at every tier. Coaching that avoids it is just an expensive spreadsheet.

How it works

Conversation, and no judgment behind it.

There is no framework, no assessment and no eight week curriculum. There is someone who asks better questions than the people around you are willing to, and then tells you what he sees.

A master’s in cognition and neuroscience taught me how habit and belief actually form. Fifteen years in track and field, martial arts and weightlifting taught me what it costs to hold a decision for a decade without resolving it. You wouldn’t work out on an injured or fatigued muscle. How can you create change spiritually, mentally or emotionally in that same way?

I work with people who are functioning and want more than functioning. When someone in front of me needs clinical care I say so and help them find it. I have made that call before, but sometimes you need reliability, competence and someone you can trust.

The rest is what you would want from anyone whose judgment you trust. Someone who has the context, who remembers what you said in March, and who will tell you the truth about what he sees rather than the version that keeps you paying. I’m here to be family and a friend where family and friends may fall short.

One case

Matt.

“I killed the old me and remade myself thanks to you.”

Matt, 29

Fifty three pounds is what the photographs show. It is not what he is talking about in that sentence. Over eighteen weeks Matt worked out what he believed, where he stood with his family, and what kind of husband he intends to be for someone he has not met yet.

The weight came off around that. Not the other way round. Anyone can put a man on a diet. The reason it held is that by the end there was a person underneath it who wanted to keep it.

Who you would be talking to

Me.

Portrait in the gym

Two things run underneath everything here. One is fifteen years spent finding out what a body will actually do when you ask properly. The other is twelve years spent studying why people change, and why more often they do not.
